Big dogs that don t drool

I don t always drool over dog breeds, but when I do, it s really big dogs. A Doberman Pincher I tched the other day at the shelter I don t think would have lasted past an hour if he hadn t been spayed. I like big dogs that don t drool. Maybe it s the extra weight, but with big dogs I always have the feeling they are going to drop something and end up being a mess instead of just a dog. This is probably a result of being a little girl who was afrd of dog and being afrd of something can be similar.

I always say this. "You can pick up a Pomeranian and trn it, but you can't trn a large dog. They need a job, a family, and they deserve the best love you can give them."

Big dogs I like are Labs. My sister has a 12 year old black lab and I thought that she seemed pretty gentle. However, when she was going through something in her life that was rough, she barked like crazy and started to pee on the floor (not all the time). She had to have surgery because she was having blood in her urine and that was not what they wanted to see. I think when she was young she got away from her mom and her mom didn't know about her "cavity." Her mom ended up having to find the right person to adopt her.

I think it depends on the size of the dog. When we moved in with our lab we didn't know any better and didn't realize that they are large dogs with lots of energy. My husband and I were walking the dog on a regular basis and one day I tripped and fell on my backside. My dog got on top of me and pushed me down but he was so good that it did not hurt and my husband helped me up. I have been told that he actually tried to help me, which is something I had never seen in a dog. When he does it, it is because he thinks something is going to happen to him or I will hurt him or he will get hurt or someone will be in danger. So he is protecting the rest of us.

My dog goes through the same thing at night. If something outside is scaring him, he will jump up and down on my bed with the covers over him. This also makes me mad and I try to chase him away. But I have tried to stop doing this and it hasn't worked, he will not let me get anywhere near him. So now I have to be careful what I do so I don't hurt my new dog because I used to get mad at him for doing it and would yell at him and throw him to the floor.

For the most part they are very calm. The only time we have issues is when they are tired or very excited. We have a 4 month old who is starting to do this. I would say that it does help if you have a dog who is a "heeler" type of dog. This is why I was thinking of getting him a different dog, because it is just so hard to get him to do what you want.

The only way we can get our dog to stop jumping up and down is to grab him by the shoulders and push him down hard and hold him there. I do this a lot. I yell at him but it does not help because he just gets back up and runs over to me. My husband has tried to stop him by telling him to sit or stay and we both get up and try to get him to do this.

I have tried putting the dog in a crate to get him to stay, but he is still so excited that he will try to jump up. And it gets even more exciting if you give him anything to do. At this point I am so frustrated because I do not want to give up on him. I just want a dog that is well trned and wants to be around us.

Thank you for the comments. I guess I just have to give up on my dog if he continues to try and jump up.

Heels is a wonderful dog. I've watched him trn other dogs, and it's amazing how quickly a dog can learn and become so well trned. He also likes to play games with his friends. Dogs seem to be very good at that. But he'll only do so much. I can't let my dog get the best of me - I am in charge!
