Kershaw County, S.C. — The Kershaw Humane Society rescued a one-year-old boy’s dog from the backyard of a Kershaw County home that caught fire over the weekend, but the dog was killed in the blaze.
According to the Kershaw County Police Department, a fire broke out in the backyard of an unoccupied home at 629 Old Savannah Highway Saturday night.
The Kershaw Humane Society, along with the city and police departments, responded to the scene.
No one was injured in the fire, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. The canine was in the backyard, but died from smoke inhalation and related injuries.
Kershaw Humane Society sd the dog’s owners asked that the dog be put to sleep to protect the family’s home and property.
The dog’s name was not released.
