Dog bone paper clips for a new baby

Hi All, I am looking for some ideas for some "dog bone paper clips" for a new baby girl. (or maybe it's a boy!) I have found "bone paper clips" and they look good but they are to big. We are looking for about 3/4" across and I was hoping to use some old stuff. Thanks for any ideas!

Re: dog bone paper clips for a new baby

I think you should use some scrap pieces from old craft projects like the scraps from the dog bone paper clips I made.

I have never heard of them being called "dog bone" paper clips. They are called that because the bones were used in the manufacturing process for the paper clip. The term "dog bone" seems to just mean they look like that shape, not necessarily the shape of a dog bone.

Re: dog bone paper clips for a new baby

I like the dog bone paper clips. They are very cute. I think the size you mentioned will work well for what you are looking for. The little bits you have to use to make the design will work well for the look you want. You might want to get more and vary the sizes to make them more decorative.

Re: dog bone paper clips for a new baby

The idea of using old scraps for making a gift is wonderful! I think this is a wonderful gift idea for any occasion.

The only reason that I can think of to make these as bone paper clips, is that they would not necessarily be used as paper clips for normal dly use. They would be more like a keepsake for an infant that would have a bit of a "dog bone" look about them. I like the idea of having them for something other than the paper clips for everyday use.

Re: dog bone paper clips for a new baby

I have seen several places where they sell paper clips that look like dog bones. I think they were called bone paper clips. I have been looking to use them for a dog bed cover. I don't have an idea for a special gift for my grandchild, but I am trying to find a way to use them as paper clips, as well. I thought about using ribbon. Is it okay to use ribbon for this?

Re: dog bone paper clips for a new baby

Hi all I was just on the website you recommended and I found some old dog bone paper clips that I think would be great! I like your idea of the ribbon and I might try that. I really like the fact that you can vary the size.

Re: dog bone paper clips for a new baby

Hi! I have a great idea. I was just looking for something else for our 3 year old grandson, and I just thought of making him a "dog bone paper clip" for Christmas. I looked around and found this site where you can make paper clips for $5.00!! I know I am a little late, but if you are looking for ideas for a Christmas present, you might be able to get the idea from me. I know it's a long shot, but if I can get any ideas to work, that would be great. :) Thanks for all of your suggestions.

Re: dog bone paper clips for a new baby

I think you are on the right track with this idea. I like your idea of making a little bit on each clip. This would be good so that the "bone" ends on each clip. My first thought is to make these clips with old scrap ribbon to use as gifts for a baby shower or birthday.

Re: dog bone paper clips for a new baby

Hi, I have been looking at the site and I liked your idea. I did not find the right ones for what I was looking for. They had a couple of sizes, but only had one size that was the size I was looking for. I guess I have to wt until I find some old pieces to try to make them. Thanks for all the ideas.

Re: dog bone paper clips for a new baby

I would like to second the suggestion for making these out of scraps from old projects, like you were suggesting for the dog bone paper clips. I think it is a good way to use up the scraps from something that you were not particularly happy with.

For your idea about making these as a gift idea, I think this would be great for an infant baby gift. This would also work well as a Mother's day gift.

Re: dog bone paper clips for a new baby

Hi, I did not want to do it as paper clips, and I have no interest in making them as anything. I wanted to make a dog bone pattern and use the scraps from old projects. I made them in a paper bag for a shower gift. The reason I decided to do this, was that I had the scrap fabric from a shirt I had made a few months ago. I used this as a pattern and cut out strips of scrap fabric and used it as a paper pattern. I have a picture to show you what it looks like. I hope you can see what it looks like.

I used the strips of scrap fabric to make this pattern.

This picture was after I had attached the strips of fabric. I also used it to attach the pieces to the pattern that was made. The fabric was attached to the outside of the fabric strips. I am trying to figure out if there was a good way to attach it to the inside of the strips.

This is what they look like now. I had attached them together and tied them with a ribbon and put a bow on the top.

I had the ribbon made up in strips. Then
