Skin ulcer on dog's elbow

Hi

I have a 10 yr old golden retriever that has recently developed a huge

swelling on her left elbow. It looks like a boil, and has been there for

about 4 days. I have read that it may be a wound, but the skin is very

raw, and has been scabbing. She is otherwise fine and doing well. I have

taken her to the vet, but we can't figure out what to do next. It

doesn't seem like a wound, and it doesn't look like a boil. Any help

would be appreciated.

Thanks for your Reply!

Is your dog showing signs of pain? Does she walk all right? I would suggest not giving any drugs unless you are sure it's a wound.

I just noticed that you have had the same post for a long time, but it does not seem to be a case of a boil, or even a wound. I would assume you are a vet of some kind, so I'll try to help. You don't mention whether your dog has any underlying medical conditions and I can't assume from your description that she has, but if she is showing no pain, not walking normally, and not eating, there could be an underlying problem that needs to be addressed.

I'd like to know a few more things:

1. Has your dog had any recent vaccinations, if any?

2. Has your dog had any changes in her routine recently, if any?

3. What else is happening in your dog's life?
